The Role
We welcome applications from any areas of interest. Especially those with surgical experience, a surgical bias or even exotics! This role involves working 2 weeks on then 2 weeks off. During your working weeks, you will work shifts between the hours of 8am-8pm.
Along with having the opportunity to join our dedicated veterinary team here at Newport Veterinary Hospital, you will also be encouraged to continue your professional development in practice.
We are true believers of learning and nurturing our vet talent and therefore offer structured support and development of clinical skills with the potential for support in gaining a fully funded certificate. You will be joining a team of certificate holders (or working towards) in Surgery, Cardiology, ECC, Internal Medicine and Dermatology. The IOW vet teams work collaboratively and contribute to Clinical Excellence projects, regular vet meetings, case reviews and dedicated CPD days held in-house for the team to learn and grow together.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
