I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

They are currently an 11-vet practice led by Ciara and Melanie, their Practice Owners, with 6 fantastic RVNs led by their HRVN Lois, 3 SVNs, 3 VCAs, and 4 receptionists.
They opened in 2014 and have grown exponentially ever since. They’re lucky to be a cohesive, supportive team, reflected in the awards won so far - Practice of the Year (won in April 2023, voted for by clients) and Supportive Practice of the Year for their new graduate (won in June 2024). Their staff turnover is very low resulting in a close-knit and stable team with quite a few of them working together for many years, and they are looking forward to welcoming a new colleague into their friendly team.
About the role
As the practice is growing, they are open to discussing this opportunity with any local veterinary talent. So, if you are looking for full-time or part-time, they can have a discussion to see how their practice can support you.
