Join Our Growing Veterinary Team in Newton Abbot
At Newton Abbot Vets for Pets, we’re proud to offer exceptional care in a friendly, fast-growing practice accredited by the RCVS with Silver Cat Friendly status. Since opening in 2014, our dedicated team has built a thriving clinic known for outstanding service and a welcoming environment—not just for our patients, but for our people too. The surgery has just undergone redecoration so is even brighter, more welcoming and vibrant too.
Chris Hawkins, our Practice Owner and a multiple nominee for ‘Vet of the Year’ in the PetPlan National Veterinary Awards, leads a skilled team passionate about veterinary excellence. Joining us means becoming part of a supportive, close-knit group committed to high standards and continuous learning.
Your Role
We’re excited to invite a compassionate, communicative veterinary surgeon to join our team. Whether you’re an experienced vet or a new graduate eager to develop your skills, you’ll find a busy and varied caseload here, with autonomy and strong team support. You’ll work alongside five vets, six registered veterinary nurses (including those trained in schedule 3 procedures), two Kennel Assistants and a proactive front-of-house team.
The surgery benefits from the most up-to-date lab machines including cytology and morphology analyser (can run ear cytology in less than ten minutes), urinalysis machine, electrolytes, haematology and biochemistry. We also have a new dental x-ray machine, new ultrasound machine and much more.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
