Veterinary Surgeon – Mixed Practice

Location

Pilgrims Vets – Fordingbridge & Cranborne (New Forest area)

Contract Type & Salary

  • Fixed-term: 6 months
  • Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum (DOE)

About the Role

At inspiring vet care, we prioritise our team as the foundation of our mission—delivering healthier animals and happier owners. As the UK’s largest vet care provider, our combined network takes care of over 2 million animals across hundreds of sites, including Pilgrims Vets, a branch of the IVC Evidensia network.

We are seeking a **motivated, enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join our mixed veterinarian team in a 6-month fixed-term contract across our Fordingbridge (primary site) and Cranborne (small animal-focused) locations. Nestled on the edge of the New Forest, this role blends clinical freedom, variety, and the tranquillity of countryside living.

The caseload presents true mixed work, broken down as:

  • 70% small animal (including a weekly surgery day)
  • 15% farm animal (smallholdings, beef farms, sheep)
  • 15% equine (predominantly leisure horses)

With flexibility, this role can be tailored—equine work excluded if preferred.

You’ll take advantage of a well-equipped practice, supported by an experienced team of seven Vets backed by four RVNs, two vet nurse students, and a full corporate support team. A shared practice vehicle is provided, making a valid driving licence essential.

Key Responsibilities

As a key member of our team, you’ll:

  • Provide high-standard clinical care to clients, covering surgery, husbandry, and medical procedures.
  • Work collaboratively to deliver excellent patient outcomes, fostering a positive clinical culture.
  • Lead and mentor junior vets/nurses where necessary.
  • Manage out-of-hours commitments (1 weeknight + 1 in 4 weekend shifts).
  • Contribute and engage with continuous professional development (CPD) and learning opportunities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
