I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The practice
Based in the heart of the community, as a standalone site we see a varied caseload with a high proportion of insured clients. We are exclusively small animals predominantly cats and dogs with the very occasional rabbit and other small furry.
We are passionate about high quality care and service. We have all the usual equipment plus dental x-ray, laparoscopy, endoscopy, Kyon TPLO equipment, harmonic scalpel and K-laser. We aim to keep the majority of our caseload in house, but we are within 45 minutes of a quality referral hospital if needed. We would be keen to develop a candidate's own interests with certificates encouraged and funded.
We are currently working towards being a zero pain accredited practice, so an interest in being involved and promoting this would be advantageous.
What Your Day Looks Like
The clinic is open from 8am-7pm weekdays, we are currently closed on a weekend. Bank holidays are worked on a rota basis.
- Our diary is well managed. Each vet gets at least 1 op day per week.
- Our standard consult length is 15minutes, with 30minutes available for certain appointments.
- We have on the day and emergency appointments available and there is a catch up slot scheduled every 60-90 minutes and allotted time for phone calls.
We believe in a good work-life balance so we can accommodate a somewhat flexible rota, but generally you will have a set weekday off every week and get an early Friday finish 1 in 3. Leaving on time is prioritised so your day will always finish with time allocated to finish notes etc.
