Wigan Vets for Pets – Veterinary Surgeon – up to £70,000 (FTE, DOE)
Do you love animals and care deeply about keeping them happy and healthy? Are you looking to join a supportive, skilled & knowledgeable team who prioritise patient care? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you at our Wigan Vets for Pets practice!
We are looking for that special someone to join our team. We are looking for a veterinary surgeon to complement our fantastic team of 5 vets, 8 RVNs, 5 receptionists and 3 VCAs. There is no fixed rota or set hours that we are looking to cover, we are flexible and open to discussion on what you would like your working week to look like but we would love someone to join in our Saturday rota which is 1 in 5 Saturdays 9am until 3pm alongside the weekly hours.
We are a busy practice with an interesting caseload and we are looking for a real team player who prioritises patient care and who aims to provide gold standard for their patients and clients. We run 20-30 minutes consults in practice alongside nurse led consults and have admin time for our colleagues built into our diary each day, to ensure that everyone leaves on time for a great work/life balance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
