Fix or flex – find your perfect balance

We know that everyone has demands and priorities outside of their career and we want to make it brilliantly easy for you to strike the right balance. Whether you are looking to fix or flex your work patterns, we can find the right solution for you. Our full-time vets usually work 4 full days with a day off during the week and you would be part of the Saturday rota which would be 1:4/5 Saturdays with a day in lieu.

We have no OOH or Bank holidays which is great for a work-life balance. However, we are happy to discuss working patterns as we understand how important a good work/life balance is and we would be happy to discuss part time hours.

About The Practice

Town and Country Vets are a first opinion, small animal veterinary group with three great sites based in Blackburn, Clayton-le-Moors & Whalley. We have all the usual equipment including Ultrasound, Digital x-ray & in-house blood machine.

We are situated perfectly with lots for you to enjoy in your spare time! Blackburn is a busy town with lots of local amenities, fitness clubs, local walks and more. We have great transport links to many major cities including Manchester and Liverpool. Or, if you prefer a change from the hustle and bustle, we have many wonderful country walks around as well as the beautiful natural park- The Lake District being just a short drive away!

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

"Town and Country is a great place to work, you will find us a friendly and helpful bunch, with advice and support from all the experienced team, management, receptionists, nurses and vets. We have a few members of staff who have been here for many years, some have trained with us and stayed with us, the longest being 30 years! I myself started on reception in 2006, then was made administrator and then was promoted to Office Manager. I left for a brief spell of 18 months in 2021 due to a restructure, I missed working at the practice and with the team, in 2023 I had the opportunity to return as Practice Manager and did so. The team welcomed be back with open arms, it was great to be back in practice"
