I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Sarah Jane Bayley (Practice Manager)
“I came to Darley House 20 years ago as a part time payroll/accounts administrator, or Bookkeeper as it was known back then. Over the years I’ve progressed to office & reception Manager and now I’m the Practice Manager.
The original appeal to work at Darley House was the friendly family atmosphere and the flexibility and understanding of working parents. I stayed because of the people I get to work with every day. They are caring, kind, compassionate and empathetic and that doesn’t just refer to my colleagues but also our clients.
Many of the staff have been here nearly as long as me and some even longer and we have a client base that follows suit. We have a lovely family vibe and our clients feel the same way.”
Hollie Charlesworth (Reception Administrator/VCA)
“I have worked at Darley House Vets for four years now. Every day here is different but what doesn't change is the Family feeling of the Practice and the joy I get from seeing our lovely Patients and Clients when they visit us.”
