St Mary’s Vets, a long-established practice in Ferndown, Dorset, is joining forces with Aniwell Vets as part of an exciting merger. We’re seeking a confident and motivated Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, collaborative team in this new chapter of progress.
This full-time role offers a unique opportunity for a vet who thrives in a first-opinion practice with a balance of consultations and surgery. You’ll support a wide range of cases—from routine appointments to emergency and critical care—and benefit from:

This role isn’t designed for new graduates or those needing a structured training programme.
Key Responsibilities
As the Primary Care Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll:
- Deliver high-quality patient and client care across a diverse caseload (dogs, cats, rabbits, and occasional exotics) -Manage cases in-house, from initial presentation through to diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up -Provide routine veterinary care (medical, surgical, preventative, and dental) -Handle emergency and critical care scenarios with confidence -Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless continuity of care -Contribute to clinical discussions, mentoring junior colleagues, and sharing expertise -Actively participate in the practice’s growth and development as part of an expanding network

How You’ll Make an Impact

Working Arrangements
- Full-time, 37–40 hours per week (4–5 days)
- 1 Saturday morning per month (8:30–12:30)
- No on-call or after-hours duties

Ideal Candidate Profiles
Are you a Veterinary Surgeon who thrives in a caring, professional, and team-focused environment? If so, this role may be right for you.
We’re seeking someone with:
- RCVS registration (or eligibility for March 2025)
- Experience in general practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical casework
- Excellence in client communication and cultivating strong, trusted relationships
- Advanced knowledge and willingness to learn, with openness to feedback
- Professionalism and adaptability, capable of both independent work and collaboration
