This role is primarily based within the Kilmarnock branch, with shifts also required across Beith and Mauchline. The caseload offers a varied mix of consultations, surgery, inpatient care and hospital work, with flexibility available depending on clinical interests and preferred working style. The team would also happily consider vets seeking a consult-only role.
Practice Highlights
Purpose-built practice facilities across three Ayrshire branches Digital and dental radiography Ultrasound including colour Doppler Endoscopy, ECG and electrocautery equipment Comprehensive in-house laboratory with full haematology and biochemistry capabilities Dedicated daily lab nurse supporting efficient in-house case workups 15-minute consultations as standard, with extended appointments for complex cases Vets Now hosted on-site for seamless inpatient and emergency continuity Strong referral relationships alongside excellent in-house medical and surgical capabilities Certificate holders in cardiology, surgery and medicine

How You'll Make a Difference
As a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon, you will:
Deliver high-quality consultations, diagnostics and surgical care across a varied caseload Manage inpatient and hospital cases with support from an experienced nursing and veterinary team Work collaboratively across branch and hospital settings to provide excellent continuity of care Contribute to clinical discussions, case planning and patient management Build strong relationships with clients through excellent communication and compassionate care Support and contribute to a positive and collaborative team culture
Working Pattern & Flexibility
This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract providing maternity leave cover, with flexibility around how your hours are worked across the week.
12-month fixed-term contract (maternity cover) 40 hours per week Shifts worked between 8:30am and 7:00pm Monday to Friday Hours can be worked over 4 or 5 days 1 in 3 Saturday mornings (8:30am–1:00pm) No out-of-hours responsibilities Consult-only opportunities available

You Might Be a Great Fit If...
You Are a Confident And Caring Veterinary Surgeon Who Enjoys Working Within a Close-knit Team Environment And Delivering High Standards Of Patient Care. You Will Bring
A degree in Veterinary Medicine and registration (or eligibility) with the RCVS
Experience in small animal general practice
Confidence with consultations, routine surgery and inpatient care
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A proactive and positive attitude towards learning and clinical development
