Job Description: Vice President of Engineering
Role Overview
We seek an experienced Vice President of Engineering to lead a globally distributed engineering team in a high-volume, high-complexity industrial environment.
At FormFactor, our wafer probers are vital for testing next-generation technologies—including silicon photonics production. This role encompasses:
- End-to-end technical and operational accountability, from advanced development and New Product Introduction (NPI) to volume ramp-up and production.
- Strategic engineering leadership, blending technical expertise, execution rigor, and people management.
- Alignment of engineering strategy with business objectives and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering Strategy & Executive Leadership
- Define and execute a multi-year engineering strategy aligned with company goals, customer roadmaps, and operations.
- Lead and develop a large, international engineering organisation across multiple regions.
- Act as a senior advisor to executive leadership on technology, scalability, and investment decisions.
High-Volume Manufacturing & Operational Excellence
- Oversee engineering readiness for high-volume production, including:
- Stable volume ramps
- Yield optimization
- Cost efficiency
- Quality standards
- Establish and track KPIs: yield, reliability, cycle time, time-to-market, and cost.
- Drive structured problem-solving and serve as the final escalation point for complex field issues.
New Product Introduction (NPI) & Lifecycle Management
- Ensure seamless transitions from development to volume manufacturing.
- Lead cross-functional NPI projects, balancing speed, risk, and quality.
- Enforce design-for-manufacturing, design-for-test, and design-for-service principles across all programmes.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the executive-level interface for strategic customers and partners.
- Support high-profile programmes, technical reviews, and escalations.
- Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Management, and Sales.
People Leadership & Engineering Culture
- Cultivate a performance-driven engineering culture with accountability and continuous improvement.
- Develop senior leaders, succession planning, and talent pipelines.
- Foster cross-disciplinary collaboration across borders and cultures.

Experience & Qualifications
Required
- 15+ years in engineering, with a major aspect in high-volume manufacturing.
- Proven leadership at Director, Senior Director, or Vice President level.
- Track record delivering high-volume wafer test equipment development.
- Experience leading large, global engineering teams spanning sites and time zones.
- Strong technical grounding and ability to operate effectively at the executive level.
- Exceptional business acumen with manufacturing, operations, and customer-facing skills.
- Degree in Engineering or related field (advanced degree preferred).
Experience Substitutions
- 8+ years leadership + Master’s degree → Total: 10+ years
- 6+ years leadership + PhD → Total: 10+ years
- Equivalent experience considered.
