About The Role

This newly created Vice President role focuses on strategic leadership for initiatives that drive the future of trusted research communication, strengthen the global research ecosystem, and reinforce Springer Nature’s position as a leader in access, trust, and responsible research.

Key Objectives:

  • Shape and lead multi-publisher initiatives that improve the quality, transparency, and trustworthiness of academic publishing globally
  • Mobilise partnerships across publishers, standards bodies, research institutions, and funders to deliver collective outcomes
  • Define governance framework, secure stakeholder alignment, and ensure strategic milestones are met
  • Align initiatives with Corporate Communications, Government Affairs, Academic Affairs, and other stakeholders

This is a hybrid role based in London, supporting effective collaboration while aligning with business needs.


Role Responsibilities

  • Lead & Represent: Champion initiatives across creative programmes, establishing and communicating vision
  • Strategic Leadership: Oversee governance, external representation, and cross-industry working groups
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Balance diverse perspectives covering publishers, standards bodies, research institutions, funders, and global partners while delivering collective solutions
  • Storytelling & Advocacy: Translate complex research initiatives into compelling narratives for internal and external audiences to drive adoption
  • Influence & Leadership: Champion shared standards, transparency, and long-term progress in the research ecosystem with bold influence
  • Global Insight: Apply a global perspective to initiatives across markets, communities, and regulatory environments
  • Brand Leadership: Mitigate risks and build trust to enhance Springer Nature’s reputation and the credibility of academic publishing
  • Trust & Engagement: Foster deep relationships with major senior external stakeholders
  • Performance Monitoring: Use data-driven insights to evaluate programmes, define KPIs, and inform further strategy
  • Deliver Key Initiatives: Oversee the execution of high-impact collaborative projects

Essential Qualifications

Experience & Skills:

  • Senior-level expertise in scholarly publishing, research ecosystems, or related fields
  • Proven ability to thrive in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Strong communication, influencing, and relationship management skills
  • Capacity to prioritise and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Demonstrated resilience, sound judgement, and tenacity in collaborative environments

Desirable Qualifications

  • Industry experience with standards bodies (e.g., NISO, ORCID, COUNTER, COPE)
  • Familiarity with research integrity, AI in publishing, or open science
  • Network credibility within the global scholarly publishing and research community
