Position Overview

Do you have deep SME banking or fintech experience and the ambition to help shape one of the most strategically important growth areas in payments?

We are seeking a commercially focused and highly collaborative Vice President, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Specialist Sales to support Mastercard’s SME agenda throughout the UK&I Division.

This role will support the UK&I division and Account Teams in identifying, shaping, and winning high-value small and medium business segment opportunities across banks, fintechs, commercial issuers, embedded finance partners, and other relevant distribution channels.

Leading a focused team of 4-6 specialist sales professionals, the successful candidate should bring:

  • Deep SME segment expertise
  • Strong sales discipline
  • The ability to partner effectively with account leads

The candidate’s aim is to accelerate revenue growth and strengthen Mastercard's position in the small and medium business segment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the UK&I SME specialist sales strategy in close partnership with account teams, business development, and key stakeholders.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of 4-6 SME specialist sales professionals, ensuring:
    • Clear priorities
    • Strong execution
    • Measurable commercial impact
  • Work alongside UK&I account teams to:
    • Identify SME growth opportunities
    • Qualify pipeline
    • Shape client propositions
    • Support deal conversion
  • Collaborate with services teams to:
    • Identify areas of opportunity and growth
  • Build strong relationships with senior client stakeholders, divisional leadership, and internal partners to unlock new SME-segment issuing, commercial card, and embedded finance opportunities
  • Represent Mastercard as a SME segment payments specialist in:
    • Relevant UK&I client conversations
    • Internal forums
    • Industry engagements

Client Solutions

  • Understand SME segment priorities, pain points, and growth ambitions of:
    • UK&I banks
    • Fintechs
    • Commercial issuers
    • Partners
  • Translate these insights into actionable sales opportunities
  • Create differentiated SME value propositions that assist account teams in addressing client challenges and delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • Develop strategic account plans for priority UK&I clients, ensuring:
    • SME segment opportunities are clearly identified
    • Sizes, prioritised, and pursued
  • Drive adoption of Mastercard’s SME-focused payment, data, loyalty, expense management, and commercial card solutions across the UK&I market
  • Develop compelling business cases and client narratives demonstrating:
    • Value of Mastercard solutions in serving small and medium business customers
  • Maintain rigorous pipeline discipline including:
    • SFDC management
    • Opportunity tracking and forecasting
    • Reporting against agreed UK&I SME sales priorities
