The Economist is hiring freelance video editors

Support our award-winning editorial video department

Job Title: Video Editor, Video Department

Location: London

Contract Type: Freelance / Permanent

Closing date for applications: July 31st, 2026

The Economist is looking to hire freelance video editors to support our award-winning editorial video department. Permanent roles may become available in the future. We are seeking experienced editors to help create compelling and insightful videos to be published on our app and website, and across our social platforms.

Our short-form vertical videos are visually engaging and creatively edited, and often feature analysis by our world-leading journalists alongside stylised graphics. Our longer, landscape videos, including our flagship show “The Insider”, feature studio-based discussion shows and landmark interviews with high-profile guests.

We are looking for talented, passionate and experienced video editors who have worked in a newsroom and edited current-affairs videos, including vertical short-form, long-form shows and interviews. This opportunity will suit those who have extensive experience of editing video for digital and social platforms. Experience of Adobe Premiere Pro is vital and use of Adobe After Effects is beneficial. Video editors will work closely with executive producers and senior journalists, and will need to be comfortable working to tight deadlines, taking initiative and having ownership over tasks.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
