Senior Video Producer — Permanent (Metro.co.uk, London)
Location: Metro Headquarters – London
About the Role
Metro.co.uk delivers news, sport, analysis, features, opinion, and shareable content to a rapidly growing global audience. We are now seeking a talented Video Producer to join our team and shape the video output across all platforms, including the 24-hour digital news operation.
The role involves sourcing, editing, and creating high-quality video content for Metro.co.uk and social media.
Ideal candidates should:
- Prove experience in sourcing, editing, and fast-paced digital news environments.
- Have worked in a newsroom setting, ensuring a rapid turnaround.
- Possess exceptional instincts for discovery, finding trending or timely content before competitors and compiling the most engaging stories—whether for editorially heavy video or more dynamic social cuts.
- Accurately account for social media optimisation (SMO) and search engine optimisation (SEO) when curating video content.
- Understand legal rights, broadcasts clearance, and copyright compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation
- Design and edit online video content tailored for web platforms with fast refresh cycles.
- Reuse and reformulate existing on-air/published content for both broad editorial distribution and niche social formats.
- Continuously scan platforms (YouTube, Vimeo, VFX Facebook, etc.) to find the most engaging, attractive, and trending content.
- Convert viral moments, social media clips, and breaking news visually through tailored videos.

Platform Performance
- Craft adaptable cuts and zavitskas for diverse platforms, from desktop to mobile and social feeds.
- Lead video masted projects that elevate Metro’s storytelling across digital and news platforms.
- Ensure work embodies a strong Metro.co.uk voice, tailored for various audiences, in line with applicable editorial standards.
Technical & Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain a firm grasp of UK media law, copyright law, and editorial practices (including the UK Editors’ Code of Practice).
- Adept at crew coordination, camera checks, and other shoot-related tasks when required.
Team-Collaboration & Adaptability
- Respond quickly and efficiently to electronic/phonic updates, with flexibility in breaks during unpredictable business hours.
- Wear multiple roles in a rapid news cycle — always adaptable.
Requirements
- Experience within a fast-paced digital news/video editing environment.
- Skilled Edge Cutting and editing for various platforms while maintaining editorial integrity.
- Demonstrated capacity for spotting clean, engaging content—including early victory picks—with eye for speed rebounds.
- Experience with Adobe Premiere – both multinlanding and video production.
- Prior workshops/shoot experience is advantageous.
