Clinical Pharmacology Director – ViiV Healthcare

The Role

As Clinical Pharmacology Director, you will shape clinical pharmacology strategy across our drug development programs. By applying PK/PD, pharmacometrics, and model-informed drug development (MIDD), you will support study design, regulatory strategy, and critical development decisions.

Reports to: Director/Senior Director, Clinical Pharmacology Location: Durham, NC; Branford, CT (eligible for relocation package); or London, UK


Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Provide scientific leadership and strategic direction for multiple clinical development programs.
  • Lead and mentor clinical pharmacology project leads, ensuring alignment with program goals.
  • Guide opportunity assessment and prioritisation across a 1- to 3-year planning horizon.
  • Develop scientific and clinical strategies and innovative collaborations with cross-functional teams (clinical, regulatory, biostatistics, translational, CMC).
  • Serve as a SME in clinical pharmacology, modeling, and simulation for stakeholders.
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives, presentations, publications, and due diligence.

Why You?

Basic Qualifications

You must have:

  • A PharmD, PhD, or MS degree with:
    • 5+ years of relevant experience (with MS) or 8+ years with an MS.
  • Experience with clinical projects from early- through late-stage development, with expertise in:
    • PK, PK/PD, pharmacometrics, and model-informed drug development (MIDD).
    • Authoring/contributing to regulatory and scientific documents.
    • Representing clinical pharmacology in discussions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in translational science, experimental medicine, and early drug development in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Infectious disease drug development experience.
  • Matrix and functional leadership across teams, with partnership skills.
  • Ability to design clinical studies, interpret quantitivaite data, and translate findings into regulatory/development recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills (presentations, writing, stakeholder engagement).
  • Quantitative programming skills (e.g., R, NONMEM, SAS, WinNonlin) with proficiency in data visualization.
