Schedule & Work Details
- Holiday Schedule: Second holiday (holidays), Major Summer Holiday (1), Major Winter Holiday (1). Full weekly schedule: Monday through Friday, encompassing weekends (Saturday & Sunday) and every other weekend.
- Scheduled Hours: All hours assigned (up to 40 per week).
- Signing Bonus: Availability assessed during the interview process by the Recruitment Team.

Key Responsibilities
Core Patient Care Duties

Monitor and Communicate:
- Report timely updates to the RN regarding key patient changes: skin condition, vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, BP, pulse oximetry), and mental status.

High-Risk Observation:
- Continuously observe assigned at-risk patients per directions from the Resource Nurse or designee.

Safety & De-escalation:
- Promote a secure environment using de-escalation techniques.
- Assist with restraints (as per education/training).

ADLs & Mobility:
- Assist patients with daily living activities: hygiene, ambulation, meals, and nutrition.
- Safely move, lift, position, and transport patients with proper body mechanics.

Clinical Procedures:
- Take, record, and interpret vitals and weights.
- Perform EKGs, Point of Care (POC) testing, and bladder scans; label and prep specimens.
- Conduct phlebotomy in certain locations.
- Perform routine telemetry tasks (e.g., battery changes) and equipment checks.
- Support RN/Licensed Practitioners during treatments by:
- Setting up materials (e.g., IVs, hemodynamic lines).
- Emotionally supporting patients.
- Maintaining sterile technique when applicable.

Specialised Care:

Track oral food/fluid intake; set up & replenish tube feeding solutions.

Empty, measure, and document output (Foley catheter, ostomy appliances, etc.).

Provide ostomy care for established patients.

I/O Observation: Measure and document oral intake/output.

Precepting & Standardized Responsibilities
- Mentor new Patient Care Technicians (I level).
- Prevent Patients at Risk:
- Perform safety checks; use fall prevention tools & restraint policies.
- Stay informed via UMMHC bulletins, emails, and hospital alerts.
- Adhere to departmental policies, attend meetings, and participate in Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Maintain predictable attendance and respect diversity.
Position Qualifications
Requirements
Education/Licensure
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Current Basic Life Support certification (within 30 days of hire).
Experience & Skills
- Patient Care Technician I Level
- Successfully completed PCT I competencies.
- Minimum of 800 hours and 6+ months as a PCA I.
- Appointment-Specific Experience:
- Prior inpatient/outpatient care or clinical training preferred.
- Core Competencies:
- English proficiency (oral/written communication).
- Medical Terminology.
- Analytics (reading/writing) and basic computer skills.
- Effective Patient Relations:
- Culturally competent, age-aware communication (patients, families, staff, visitors).
- Critical Attributes:
- Problem-Solving: For routine and emergency situations.
- Emotional Resilience: Remain composed in high-stress or crisis environments.

Healthcare Requirements & Physical Demands
- Environment:
- Indoor patient care setting.
- Work Intensity:
- Physically demanding (lifting up to 50 lbs), standing/walking most of the time.
- Repetitive tasks: Pushing equipment and bending frequently.
- Sensory Requirements:
- Hearing & Vision: Clear communication (patients/providers), adjusting equipment.
- Hand Dexterity: Precision required for tasks (e.g., EKG, POC testing).
