Position Status: One-Year Visitor
Academic Rank: Visiting Assistant Professor
Department: Environmental Studies & Science
Campus Location: Main Campus
Job Summary
Colorado College’s Environmental Studies & Science Program (EV) invites applications for a one-year visiting position at the Visiting Assistant Professor level to begin in August of 2026, with the possibility of renewal for a second year, contingent upon satisfactory performance and curricular needs. Area of specialization is open across environmental science, though we especially encourage applications from candidates with expertise in hydrology and adjacent fields. The successful candidate will teach a combination of the following courses, based on specific EV enrollment needs: Introduction to Global Climate Change (a gateway course required for all Environmental Studies and Environmental Science majors), Hydrology (either multiple sections of the same course or electives that meet our Hydrosphere learning objectives), Energy (environmental thermodynamics and energetics), electives in the candidate’s area of expertise, and supervised student research and thesis work. The teaching load for this position is six courses per academic year. Visiting assistant professors at Colorado College receive competitive salaries, benefits, and professional development opportunities.
Colorado College is a private, undergraduate, selective liberal arts institution enrolling approximately 2,000 students. One distinguishing feature of Colorado College is the Block Plan, in which professors teach, and students take, one course at a time. Each block is three and a half weeks long, allowing for unique teaching and learning strategies. Professors teach six of the eight blocks in an academic year. The Block Plan lends itself to field and project-based teaching, and funds and logistical support for such projects are available through the College and through the Environmental Studies & Science program.
Colorado College actively promotes a dynamic and inclusive environment in which students and employees of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives can learn and work. Read more about our commitment to Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in our “The Strategy for a More Just CC,” a living document that presents a framework to address ten priority areas where antiracism strategies impact all areas of the college, policies, practices, and pedagogies (please see https://www.coloradocollege.edu/offices/adei/strategic-plan.html).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
