Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies & Science

Position Status: One-Year Visitor Academic Rank: Visiting Assistant Professor Department: Environmental Studies & Science Campus Location: Main Campus

Job Summary

Colorado College’s Environmental Studies & Science Program (EV) invites applications for a one-year visiting position at the Visiting Assistant Professor level, beginning in August 2026. Renewal for a second year, contingent on performance and curricular needs, is possible.

We are seeking candidates with expertise in environmental science, with a particular interest in hydrology and adjacent fields. The role involves teaching a combination of the following courses (based on enrollment needs):

  • Introduction to Global Climate Change (a gateway major requirement)
  • Hydrology (multiple sections or electives meeting hydrosphere objectives)
  • Energy (environmental thermodynamics and energetics)
  • Electives aligned with the candidate’s expertise
  • Supervised student research and thesis work

The teaching load is six courses per academic year. Visiting Assistant Professors receive competitive salaries, benefits, and professional development opportunities.


About Colorado College

Colorado College is a private, selective liberal arts institution with approximately 2,000 undergraduate students. Minimum Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in an environmental science discipline with a research focus on environmental studies, by the start of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in hydrology or an adjacent environmental science field, with relevant research emphasis.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses, particularly those aligned with the responsibilities outlined.
