Vocational Tutors – Alternative Provision (Catering, Hair & Beauty, Sport, Health & Social Care, Childcare)
About the Role
Are you passionate about vocational education and making a real impact on the lives of young people who need extra support? Pathway Academy Zone in Stoke-on-Trent is looking for Vocational Tutors to help shape an exceptional alternative provision setting.
This is not a standard teaching role—you’ll be delivering practical, engaging sessions while contributing to the development of a new school. You’ll work with small groups and individuals to help learners rediscover their potential and build confidence in vocational subjects.

Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent (ST6 3LJ) | Permanent | Full-time | Term time only

Subject Expertise Required
We’re seeking passionate vocational trainers with expertise in at least one of the following:
- Catering
- Hair & Beauty
- Sport
- Health & Social Care
- Childcare
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging, hands-on vocational sessions tailored to learner needs
- Support the Career Pathways programme, enhancing:
- Employability skills
- Personal development
- Life skills and social responsibility
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning challenges
- Work collaboratively with learners who have:
- SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health) needs
- Additional learning barriers
- Foster strong tutor-learner relationships to improve engagement and behaviour
- Track learner progress, maintaining clear records and identifying next steps
- Develop pathways to qualifications and progressions for all learners
Experience & Requirements
Essential
✔ Demonstrated expertise in one or more vocational fields (industry experience counts) ✔ Experience supporting or teaching young people, preferably within alternatives provision (PRU, AP, or similar) ✔ Ability to engage and inspire learners who may be disengaged, disaffected, or otherwise struggling to thrive ✔ Strong behaviour management skills ✔ Clear communication, resilience, resourcefulness, and adaptability ✔ Relevant qualifications or industry experience in your field

Desirable
✔ Experience working with students with SEMH or SEN needs ✔ Previous role in alternative provision or PRUs ✔ Formal teaching training or assessor qualifications (eager to do courses doesn’t count) ✔ Experience with Team Teach or de-escalation training
Leadership & Support
- Backed by an experienced headteacher with a proven vision for alternative provision
- Leadership team with specialist insights in working with young people who need alternative support pathways
- Collaborative approach where staff ideas are welcomed and put into action
