I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Are you passionate about building reliable, scalable data solutions that turn complex information into meaningful insight? We’re looking for a Data Engineer to help shape and strengthen ND&I’s data capability by creating robust pipelines, optimising integrations and preparing trusted data for reporting, analytics and AI use across the function.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring our data is accessible, high quality and ready to power smarter decisions. You’ll work across data pipelines, transformation layers and integration workflows, helping to deliver a dependable data foundation that supports business reporting, analytics and future AI opportunities.
What You’ll Do

- Monitor pipeline performance and resolve ingestion, transformation and data quality issues quickly and effectively.
- Embed automated validation checks, data quality rules and lineage controls to support governance and trust in the data.
- Prepare clean, structured, production-ready datasets for dashboards, analytics and modelling.
- Work closely with Data Analysts and wider stakeholders to ensure data is available, complete and fit for purpose.
- Create and maintain clear documentation for pipelines, integration flows and core data structures.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, improve efficiency and support continuous improvement across the data platform.
- You’ll also contribute to the ongoing evolution of ND&I’s data engineering practices, helping us build a modern, resilient and insight-led data environment.
What You Are
- Strong hands-on experience building ETL/ELT solutions in cloud-based data environments.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python, or equivalent scripting languages used in data engineering.
- Experience with cloud data platforms and orchestration tools such as GCP, Snowflake, Airflow or Azure Data Factory.
- Good understanding of data modelling, data warehousing and integration patterns.
- Experience embedding data quality, validation and lineage controls into engineering processes.
- A practical approach to investigating and resolving pipeline or data quality issues.
- Familiarity with BI and analytics environments, with an understanding of how data is consumed downstream.
- Experience in telecoms or within engineering or infrastructure-led environments would be an advantage.
