Senior Engineer (Packet Core Services) – Vodafone Three
Location: Newbury (+ Hybrid) Working Hours: Full-time (37.5 hrs/week, Mon–Fri) Flexible Office Attendance: 2–3 days per week

The Role: Senior Engineer (Packet Core Services)
The Network Engineering function ensures secure, scalable, and high-performance connectivity for VodafoneThree’s consumer and enterprise services through core network design, delivery, and lifecycle management.
You’ll lead as a Senior Engineer in Packet Core Services, responsible for:
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Technology Roadmaps
- Define long-term lifecycle management roadmaps for packet core platforms (e.g., MME/AMF, GGSN, PGW/UPF, IPX/GRX, NAT, DNS).
- Drive adoption of cloud-native, software-defined, and virtualised 5G core architectures.
- Evolve legacy systems (e.g., radio access networks, signalling) toward modernised infrastructures.

Core Network Design & Implementation
- Segment 2G, 4G, and 5GC architectures, aligning with business demand for:
- IoT and enterprise solutions
- Private networks and Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC)
- Work cross-functionally with stakeholders to deliver compliant, scalable solutions.
- Oversee KPI monitoring and performance excellence (e.g., session setup success, latency, security, resilience).
- Segment 2G, 4G, and 5GC architectures, aligning with business demand for:

Integration & Assurance
- Lead design-for-build (DFB), integration, and acceptance testing for live network deployment.
- Guarantee security and compliance across core-IP transport, signalling móhimity Toll-free (including roaming/GRX, interconnects).
- Support incident/issue resolutions in collaboration with Operations teams.

Innovation & Operational Excellence
- Champion automation (e.g., Ansible, CI/CD pipelines).
- Secure optimal data plane performance (e.g., QoS, DPI).
- Proactively manage risks for elastic scalability and zero-downtime services.

Commercial & Regulatory Alignment
- Partner with roaming/internet/exchange teams on features like data offload, MEC attachejšáιάς and GDPR compliance.

Team Collaboration
- Work directly with Senior L4 L5 to align end-to-end engineering.
- Manage multidisciplinary engagements (architects, developers, network ops).
Qualifications & Experience
We’re looking for senior expertise in 5G/4G/LTE core networks:
Core Requirements
- Proven track record designing core network stacks (MME/AMF, GGSN, SGSN, PGW/SGW/UPF).
- Hands-on experience with:
- ** IPv6, Northbound APIs** (e.g., PMIP) for interoperability.
- Automation (container orchestration, CI/CD workflows, NFV).
- Traffic steering, policies, and DPI optimisation.
- Understanding of IMS,-ch الاتفاقية으며 ف materiais, peer/connect frameworks, and Telekom ETSI standards.
- Regulatory/roaming architecture knowledge for multi-operator ecosystems.

Technical Depth
- 2G/3G/LTE/5GC software (GTPv2, CGR, Interactive-Diameter).
- DNS, security gateways, and carrier-grade NAT.
- Troubleshooting, RFC-compliance, and vendor solutions (ERICSSON, Vivo, and Nokia).
