Network Operations Centre Shift Engineer (SDH/PDH Specialist) – Vodafone Three Full-time hybrid role (Glasgow)
Location & Working Patterns
- Location: Glasgow (hybrid model)
- Hours: 37.5 hrs/week (Mon–Fri) + on-call rotation (1-in-4)
- Flexibility: 2–3 office days/week (minimum 8 days/month). Balance determined collaboratively with your manager.

Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- SDH/PDH Specialisation: Primary focus on Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH) technologies, with cross-technology deployment (Ethenet, Optical, Cisco TAC, Ericsson/Nortel, Call Manager, SDH, MSPP).
- Fault Management:
- Monitor customer networks proactively to identify and triage faults.
- Diagnose and resolve basic faults; escalate complex/intermittent issues as needed.
- Provide “알 realizada” (ACK) forecasts, mid-task updates, and detailed incident reports.
- Customer Service:
- Liaise with customers, vendors, and partners to gather technical insights.
- Represent Real Time Operations internally in all communications.
- Process Adherence:
- Track fault tickets per SLA timelines; ensure accuracy in incident documentation.
- Propose cover for planned absences and cross-team support.
- Quality & Improvement:
- Assess procedures for efficiency gaps; contribute to technical reports.
- Drive continuous learning via self-initiated development.

Key Requirements
Essential Experience
✅ Telecommunications Specialist
- 3+ years (minimum) in network operations (preferably in an NOC/NOCMR environment).
- Hands-on expertise with SDH, PDH, optical networking (vendor-agnostic: Ericsson, Nortel, Ciena).
✅ Troubleshooting & Reporting
- Proven ability to diagnose network failures and generate detailed incident reports.
- Experience interfacing with third-party vendors and managing multi-technology ecosystems (Cisco, PMOS, CNMS).
✅ Communication
- Bridge technical and non-technical audiences—explaining issues to customers, managers, and non-experts.
- Collaborative mindset: team support, process improvement.
