Salary: £29,341.81 per annum

Position: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week)

About the Role

Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1800 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.

We now have an opportunity for a Volunteer and Student Placement Coordinator to join our team at HMP Parc to coordinate a team of volunteers and student placements to assist the wider provision at HMP Parc including Family Services, Veteran support, Early Days In Custody, Safety, Visitors Centre, Neurodiversity etc.

You will work with local colleges and universities to create opportunities for student placements and volunteering opportunities together with working and supporting prisoners and their children and families on a range of issues.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage volunteer/placement weekly rotas in line with the requirements of family services.
  • Liaise with external agencies to promote volunteer opportunities and student placements opportunities.
  • Manage the recruitment of volunteers including interviews, vetting, training, inductions, and probationary periods.
  • Conduct regular supervisions with volunteers and students.
  • Managing volunteer/placement performance.
  • Conduct regular volunteer team meetings.
  • Manage volunteer monthly expenses.
  • Promote the volunteer placement programme both internally and externally.
  • Ensure volunteers have access to relevant training and manage a training log.
  • Undergo training as deemed appropriate to the position.
  • Assist in daily, weekly and monthly collation of all relevant data for the purpose of monthly returns/KPI’s/KPT’s.
  • Provide support to the Family Services team when required.
  • Communicate effectively at all times with the general public and internal departments, ensuring company policies and procedures are followed at all times.
  • Promote the adoption of models of good practice and quality standards with relation to children and families, including good practice as identified by HMCIP, Prison service, NOMS, pact and Action for Prisoners’ families (‘Recognising Quality’), Kids VIP (‘Children Visiting Prisons’) and others as relevant.
  • Maintain positive and effective working relationships with prison staff including: Visits, Visitor Centre, Resettlement, Security, Offender Management etc.

Requirements

The successful candidate must be able to support and manage others including volunteers and student placement, have a knowledge of the Children and Families Remit and data protection, and an appreciation of the functions and operation of the business.

With excellent organisational skills and great customer service, you will be able to work on your own initiative as well as part of an energetic and proactive team in a challenging environment.
