Volunteer Companion - North London
Marie Curie is inviting compassionate, everyday people to join the Companion Team, supporting individuals across the following London boroughs who are living with a terminal diagnosis:
Barnet, Camden, Islington, Haringey, Enfield, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Tower Hamlets, Newham, or Redbridge.
About the Role
This rewarding Companion Volunteer opportunity offers you the chance to provide meaningful support, companionship, and comfort to someone facing one of life’s most challenging journeys.
As a Companion Volunteer, you’ll build connections by visiting individuals regularly to:
- Share conversation and be present
- Help express important emotions and concerns
- Share practical information
- Offer kindness, reassurance, and support to families, carers, and during bereavement
Your role is rooted in transformative moments—not grand gestures, but meaningful presence over time.
Your Responsibilities
- Meet for up to 3 hours per week—flexible to suit your schedule
- Engage in thoughtful conversation and active listening
- Help someone articulate their thoughts and feelings
- Provide compassionate presence and emotional support
- Share relevant information and resources
- Occasionally use email for updates and offer occasional phone support

About You
Marie Curie is looking for patient, empathetic listeners with:
- A calm and reassuring presence
- Clear communication and a naturally kind demeanour
- Commitment to offer consistent support (3+ hours/week)
- Willingness to complete a short phone call about visits and occasional email communication
