Company Description
Basildon Pride CIO is an LGBT+ charity serving communities across the Basildon Borough in Essex. The organisation promotes equality, visibility, and inclusion for LGBT+ people through events, education, and community support. Its flagship activities include Pride festivals and related cultural initiatives that create safe, welcoming spaces for all attendees. Volunteers play a central role in planning and delivering these events, working alongside trustees and community partners. The charity values collaboration, respect, and diversity in all aspects of its work.
Role Description
The Volunteer Festival Health and Safety Manager is a contract, on-site role based in Basildon, responsible for overseeing health and safety planning and delivery for Basildon Pride events. Day-to-day tasks include:

- Conducting risk assessments for festival activities, stages, and visitor areas
- Developing clear health and safety plans and procedures
- Coordinating with event organisers, security, medical providers, and local authorities to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and guidance
- Briefing volunteers and staff on safety protocols
- Managing incident reporting
- Monitoring safety standards throughout the event
- Reviewing safety performance after each festival
- Recommending improvements
- Maintaining documentation and records

Qualifications
- Experience in event health and safety management, including risk assessment, crowd management, and emergency planning
- Knowledge of UK health and safety regulations, particularly in relation to public events, temporary structures, and safeguarding
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with volunteers, suppliers, emergency services, and local authorities
- Organisational and planning skills, including the ability to manage documentation, schedules, and incident logs under time pressure
- Relevant qualifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent health and safety training, and prior experience with festivals, community events, or charity work, would be beneficial
- An understanding of LGBT+ communities and a commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and respectful engagement with diverse attendees would be advantageous
