Outreach Support Volunteer – Luton Community Role

About the Role

We are recruiting Outreach Support Volunteers to make a tangible difference by promoting our services and engaging with individuals experiencing homelessness, substance misuse, and multiple needs in the Lutton community.

We empower individuals to create change, grow personally, and live life to its fullest through tailored support, advocacy, and strong partnership collaboration.


Responsibilities

As an Outreach Support Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in:

  • Engaging and supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and substance misuse.
  • Responding to referrals and connecting with those in the community—actively engaging with rough sleepers in partnership with agencies.
  • Building positive rapport, ensuring people feel heard, respected, and valued.
  • Signposting individuals to relevant services, advocating for their needs, and assisting them in achieving goals.
  • working alongside partner organisations to manage expectations and help individuals make positive life changes.
  • Operating in sometimes fast-paced or challenging environments, requiring adaptability and quick decision-making.

Requirements

  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Commit to attending mandatory training (outlined below).
  • Practice confidentiality and professional boundaries with sensitive cases.
  • Embrace collaborative teamwork and a proactive support role.
  • Must undergo an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.

Training Requirements

All volunteers must complete:

  • ✅ Mandatory:
    • Volunteer Induction
    • Boundaries/Confidentiality
  • ✅ Core (will be arranged):
    • Drug Awareness
    • Harm Reduction
    • Alcohol Awareness Training dates* will be confirmed shortly.
