Position: Volunteer Strength & Conditioning Coach
Location: Guildford, Surrey
Reports to: First Team Manager / Head Coach
Type: Voluntary, part-time (one evening a week and match days as required)
Overview
Guildford Football Club is seeking a knowledgeable and committed Volunteer Strength & Conditioning Coach to support the physical development, performance, and wellbeing of our players. This role is ideal for an aspiring or early-career strength and conditioning professional looking to gain practical experience within a competitive football environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and review evidence-based strength and conditioning sessions aligned with the club’s football philosophy and competition schedule.
- Conduct physical profiling and baseline testing (e.g. strength, power, speed, agility, endurance) and help track players’ progress across the season.
- Design individualised programmes to address players’ specific needs, including strength development, speed and agility, mobility, and movement quality.
- Contribute to warm-up and cool-down routines for training sessions and match days, ensuring players are physically prepared and supported in their recovery.
- Collaborate closely with coaching and medical staff to integrate S&C principles into football training and to manage training loads appropriately.
- Support injury prevention strategies through targeted exercises and load management, and assist with basic return-to-train and return-to-play conditioning (under guidance of medical staff where applicable).
- Educate players on best practice in strength training, recovery, nutrition (basic guidance only), sleep, and lifestyle habits that support performance.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, testing data, session content, and player feedback.
- Promote a culture of professionalism, discipline, and continuous improvement within the squad.
Person Specification
Essential
- Working towards, or completion of, a degree in Sport and Exercise Science, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Coaching, Physiotherapy, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
- Sound understanding of strength and conditioning principles, including periodisation, progressive overload, movement mechanics, and basic sports science.
- Experience of coaching individuals or groups in a gym or sports setting, with the ability to demonstrate and teach correct lifting technique and fundamental movement skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and gain the respect of players and staff.
- Organised, reliable, and punctual, with the ability to plan ahead and work independently when required.
- A genuine interest in football and player development.
- Willingness to commit to regular training sessions, matches, and occasional meetings throughout the season.

Desirable
- UKSCA accreditation (or working towards) or other recognised strength and conditioning certification.
- Experience working in football or another team sport environment.
- Knowledge of athlete monitoring tools (e.g. RPE scales, wellness questionnaires, GPS where available).
- First Aid qualification (Emergency First Aid in Football or equivalent).
- Experience designing season-long or multi-phase training plans.
