Volunteering Mass Engagement Manager

Contract type: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract, 34.5 hours per week

Location: Home-based, with travel across the UK and attendance at fundraising events, including some weekends.

Salary Range: £37,000-£41,000

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced and passionate Volunteering Mass Engagement Manager to join our Volunteering Team. You'll lead a team responsible for delivering outstanding volunteer experiences across a diverse portfolio of fundraising events, micro-volunteering opportunities and wider engagement activity. From marathons and race days to Pride events and stadium collections, you'll help recruit, engage and support volunteers who are vital to Macmillan's fundraising success, while growing participation and ensuring every volunteer has a positive and rewarding experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of Volunteering Mass Engagement Leads, creating an inclusive and high-performing culture.
  • Develop and deliver engaging volunteering opportunities that attract and retain volunteers from diverse communities.
  • Oversee the volunteer journey, ensuring volunteers receive excellent support throughout their experience.
  • Lead the operational delivery of fundraising event volunteering and micro-volunteering programs.
  • Support the successful delivery of fundraising events and provide hands-on support when required.
  • Build effective relationships with volunteers, Lead Volunteers and internal stakeholders to maximise engagement and impact.
  • Collaborate with teams across Macmillan to promote volunteering opportunities and support organisational objectives.
  • Use data, reporting and insight to identify opportunities for growth and continuous improvement.
  • Act as an escalation point for volunteer concerns and complaints, ensuring appropriate and timely resolution.

About You

The skills and experience we are looking for in the role are:

  • Experience managing volunteers within a fundraising, events or community engagement setting.
  • Experience delivering large-scale fundraising events such as marathons, challenge events, collections or similar activities.
  • Experience recruiting, engaging and retaining volunteers.
  • Experience line managing and developing team members.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Knowledge of volunteering best practice, including legal, compliance and equality considerations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A willingness to travel and attend fundraising events, including occasional weekends and unsociable hours.
