Position Overview
MUFG, one of the world’s most trusted and respected financial groups, is seeking a Credit Risk Manager to join their EMEA Financial Institutions Credit Risk Management team in London. Key Responsibilities
As a Credit Risk Manager at MUFG in London, you will be entrusted with significant responsibilities that span the assessment of fund financing transactions through to the ongoing management of complex portfolios. Your day-to-day activities will involve working collaboratively with colleagues across multiple departments both locally and internationally to ensure that all aspects of credit risk are meticulously evaluated and managed. You will engage directly with clients during due diligence processes, contribute to the development of new products by shaping risk frameworks, and play an integral role in presenting key transactions to senior management. Your ability to communicate effectively will be essential as you clarify risk appetites for stakeholders and negotiate terms within legal documentation. Success in this role will come from your attention to detail, your capacity for clear analysis under pressure, and your willingness to share knowledge within a supportive team environment.
- Assess and recommend appropriate ratings and credit limits for fund financing transactions by evaluating transaction structures and collateral packages to ensure robust risk management.
- Engage in active dialogue with trading, sales, and relationship manager counterparts to ensure that risk appetite is clearly understood by all 1LoD stakeholders.
- Oversee the annual review process for existing credit limits and counterparties within your area of responsibility, ensuring compliance with internal policies.
- Maintain oversight of the EMEA portfolio across both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities entities, ensuring accurate monitoring and reporting of exposures.
- Organise comprehensive credit due diligence meetings with clients to gather critical information for informed decision-making.
- Support new product adoption by defining risk acceptance criteria, developing rating models, and establishing effective credit risk measurements.
- Collaborate closely with Global Corporate & Investment Banking (GCIB) and Markets (GM) teams on matters relating to fund financing products.
- Present complex transactions to senior management for discussion and approval, providing clear analysis and recommendations on intricate deal structures.
- Set credit risk-related terms in trading documentation through close liaison with Legal departments and external counsel as required.
- Monitor delegated transactions to ensure performance aligns with approved terms while assessing portfolio-level risks and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Qualifications
Your proven background as a Credit Risk Manager or similar role within financial institutions equips you with the technical acumen needed for success at MUFG. You bring hands-on experience managing fund financing transactions particularly those involving subscription facilities and possess an analytical mindset capable of dissecting complex investment strategies. Your familiarity with legal documentation ensures that all agreements meet rigorous standards while mitigating potential risks. In addition to your technical expertise, your interpersonal skills enable you to build trust-based relationships across departments and geographies. You are comfortable presenting detailed analyses to senior leaders while remaining responsive to feedback from colleagues at all levels. Your commitment to continuous learning means you are always seeking ways to broaden your skill set whether through formal training or informal knowledge sharing making you an invaluable member of any team focused on excellence in credit risk management.
- Experience in credit risk management within financial services, specifically focusing on fund financing products such as subscription finance and FX hedging solutions.
- Comprehensive understanding of common LP types including insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds (SWF), pension funds, and Fund of Funds; additional exposure considered beneficial.
- Proven competence in analysing financial sponsor investment strategies with emphasis on buy-out funds, private credit vehicles, infrastructure funds, or similar asset classes.
- Solid working knowledge of legal documentation standards relevant to subscription lines as well as broader fund financing solutions such as NAV Financing or Private Equity Portfolio Financing.
- Familiarity with key regulatory frameworks impacting credit risk management within banking environments; awareness of evolving industry standards is advantageous.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification is essential; Master’s degree or relevant industry accreditation would be highly regarded.
- Excellent communication skills enabling you to convey complex credit arguments clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated interest in developing new skills alongside a structured approach to problem-solving within a collaborative setting.
- Ability to operate calmly under pressure while prioritising tasks effectively according to business needs.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications supporting efficient analysis and reporting.
