VP, Delegated Authority Underwriter – SME & Middle Market Team
Are you looking for your next opportunity? Sompo has a unique opportunity for an VP, Delegated Authority Underwriter, within our Delegated SME & Middle Market team. Our SME & Middle Market Underwriting team offers comprehensive multi-line capabilities tailored to the following industry verticals:
- Real estate
- Hospitality
- Financial institutions
- Professional services
- Technology
- Life sciences
We partner with a network of retail brokers and MGAs committed to long-term relationships built on a strong service proposition. This role will focus specifically on the delegated authority sector, helping to grow our book of business and collaborate with the Head of UK SME & Middle Market. You’ll work closely with partner brokers & MGAs in the UK.

About the Role
Our business relies on your impact. Here’s what you’ll be responsible for:
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop new and existing delegated relationships
- Take accountability for the P&L of delegated partners through active account management
- Ensure all appropriate lines of business (LOBs) are actively sold to delegated partners
- Support the wider delegated team in referrals and account management
- Price and analyze coverage, structure risks, and exposure for individual delegated partner referrals
- Balancing strong customer relationships while maintaining a risk-mitigating, compliance-driven culture
- Proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification, and escalation
- Making sound risk decisions aligned with the business unit’s risk appetite
- Conducting individual account underwriting audits as required

Requirements
To excel in this role, you must bring:
- At least 15+ years of underwriting experience
- Significant delegated underwriting sector experience at underwriter and management levels
- Established relationships with existing delegated partners
- Strong negotiation and communication skills (written & verbal)
- Proven ability to build and sustain client relationships
