The Children and Families Department takes a strengths-based approach to working with each other, children, young people and families, and our partner agencies. We call this 'Our Nottinghamshire Approach'. Watch the two minute animation to learn more.
Support young lives through the night. Join Oakhurst Children’s Home as a Wake Night Worker and provide safety, comfort, and reassurance to children and young people in a supportive team environment.
Working in Residential Childcare is far more than a job- it’s a chance to make a real and lasting difference. At Oakhurst, a warm, nurturing, and supportive children’s home run by Nottinghamshire County Council, we are looking for a compassionate and committed individual to join our team as a Night Care Worker.
Oakhurst is a specialist home providing 24-hour care for children and young people who need stability, understanding, and encouragement. As a Wake Night Worker, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, calm, and secure environment where children can rest, feel valued, and continue to thrive. You’ll work as part of a dedicated and skilled team, supporting children with complex and sometimes challenging behaviours.
You will be part of a compassionate team that values every member. Our residential workers come from various backgrounds, and we are eager to support new team members as they grow in this rewarding role. If you are someone who leads with kindness, remains resilient under pressure, and believes in every child’s ability to grow and succeed, we would love to hear from you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
