Clerical Team Role – Forrester Brown Ward (Orthopaedic Trauma)

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our clerical team at Forrester Brown ward, a 24-bedded Orthopaedic Trauma unit.

Responsibilities

Core Duties

Duties include:

  • Reception and clerical support to the ward unit
  • Stores management
  • General administrative duties

The role requires:

  • Good IT skills (essential)
  • Previous experience in a hospital setting would be desirable (but training provided)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a pressurised environment

Key tasks include:

  • Welcome patients and relatives with friendliness and courtesy, providing clear information
  • Direct patients/relatives to ward facilities
  • Manage telephone enquiries, take/take action on messages in a helpful manner
  • Liaise with nurses, doctors, GPs, and healthcare team to ensure quality patient care and information accuracy
  • Maintain admissions books, inpatient boards, and patient records in the administration system
  • Support nursing staff and multidisciplinary team in patient discharges
  • Retrieve case notes, x-rays, and test results for admissions preparation
  • Arrange follow-up appointments and patient transport as needed
  • Coordinate ward equipment/facility maintenance and repairs

Job Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • IT skills
  • Customer service skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in an acute healthcare setting

Person Specification

Non-Negotiable:

  • Proficiency in multiple IT systems
  • Verbal/written communication skills
  • Organisational and methodical approach

Beneficial but not essential:

  • Preference for candidates with NHS hospital experience
  • File/folder management skills
