Neighbourhood Services Team Lead – Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

The Role

Sandwell Council is transforming its approach to neighbourhood services to focus on local challenges and community needs. As part of the upgraded Neighbourhoods Services team, you’ll play a pivotal role in:

  • Leading and shaping high-impact projects
  • Collaborating with local businesses, residents, and partners
  • Line managing Neighbourhood Officers to deliver projects across Sandwell
  • Demonstrating the Council’s values and behaviours: Member Led, Customer Focused and Officer Driven

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a visible, hands-on presence as a key point of contact for residents, businesses, and community groups, promoting local priorities and community ownership.
  • Lead ward-based action planning and engagement, supporting councillors in allocating local funding and fulfilling their community leadership roles.
  • Work in all weather conditions, including evening/weekend shifts, to meet urgent community needs.
  • Drive positive change by solving residents’ issues, shaping projects, and improving neighbourhoods.

About You

To be considered for this strategic leadership role, you should:

  • Hold a Level 4 qualification or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Have at least 3 years’ experience in a complex operating environment.
  • Show proficiency in:
    • Collaborative models & partnerships
    • Project management (ensuring successful delivery)
    • Line management & team leadership
  • embody a customer-focused approach, fostering responsive, high-quality services.
  • be a resilient communicator, skilled in influence, negotiation, and problem-solving.
  • demonstrate a passion for improving Sandwell communities.
