Due to the ever-increasing number of treatments and care we offer to patients and true to the career development opportunities we promote, our neat and professional Inpatient Ward have now a new permanent requirement for a Healthcare Assistant to join and be part of our friendly, professional, supportive and patient focused team, based at our Emersons Green hospital, Bristol.

As one of our Ward Healthcare Assistants, you’ll be working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting with clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring that patient centred care at all times.
This is a full-time permanent position (37.5 hours per week)
Working on a rota basis spread across Monday to Sunday
Shift patterns consisting of:
- 07:00 to 15:00
- 12:00 to 20:00
- 19:00 to 08:00
Pay enhancements for working unsociable hours, Sundays and Bank Holidays!
What you'll be doing
As our Ward Healthcare Assistant, you’ll work closely with registered members of the ward Inpatients team, providing a safe and supportive environment for all patients. You’ll ensure that our patients receive a high standard of care by carrying out routine patient monitoring and care duties such as; changing bedding and assisting with personal hygiene. You’ll be undertaking basic nursing care practices like catheter fitting and bag changing.

You’ll ensure your patients are prepared, fit and ready for their treatments to take place having gained knowledge of by investigating the patient pathway. You'll have the responsibility of adding to and following that patient's pathway, ensuring particulars such as; consent obtained before any treatment is carried out.
There'll be elements of administration tasks to be carried out, you'll be called upon to collect all patient information together for admissions and discharging or for follow-up calls. You may be required to photocopy particulars and transport patient paperwork to other departments.
As the Ward Healthcare Assistant, you'll be conscious of health, safety and hygiene aspects. Not only will you look to make sure the ward is clean, you'll monitor and look for potential hazards, ensuring they are made safe or the issue is quickly brought to the attention of the department manager. In addition, you’ll assist with the management of stock and equipment, ensuring good levels and ordering when appropriate, pre-empting any shortfalls.

You might have past exposure or experience of working in a Care home, Hospital or Clinical environment and might have already completed the NVQ level 1&2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent and Basic Life Support Certificate or Care Certificate. If not, you must be willing to undertake the training which is provided by us.
You’ll be computer literate and an effective communicator at all levels, written and verbal and adaptable, this position will see you communicating with a wide range of people, from internal colleagues from varied departments to patients, their families and friends.
