Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Ward Host Supervisor to join the Catering Team at Frimley Park Hospital.

This is a rewarding role where you will play an important part in enhancing the patient experience by helping to deliver a high-quality ward catering service across the hospital. Working closely with the Food Service Manager (FSM), you will support the day-to-day delivery of patient meal services, ensuring excellent standards of food quality, hygiene, customer care, and patient satisfaction are consistently achieved.

You will lead and support your team by planning, organising, motivating, and training staff to deliver a professional, caring, and efficient service. The role also involves building positive working relationships with ward-based clinical teams to help meet patients’ nutritional needs and improve the overall mealtime experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the Food Service Manager (FSM) in delivering a professional and patient-focused ward catering service across Frimley Park Hospital
  • Supervise, motivate, and support Ward Hosts to ensure high standards of service, cleanliness, and hygiene are maintained at all times
  • Develop positive working relationships with ward teams to enhance the patient mealtime experience and support patients’ nutritional requirements
  • Promote excellent customer care for patients, relatives, and visitors, ensuring privacy, dignity, and respect are always maintained
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve service quality and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain awareness of menu content, allergens, food intolerances, and portion control requirements
  • Ensure all food is presented and served to a high standard in line with Trust procedures and food safety regulations
  • Monitor food quality, temperatures, and service standards through audits, inspections, and customer feedback
  • Support compliance with HACCP (Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points) procedures, including hygiene and cleanliness checks within areas of responsibility
  • Respond to and resolve complaints professionally in line with departmental procedures, escalating concerns where appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Catering and Hotel Services to maintain and improve service delivery
  • Act as a positive ambassador for the Catering Department and Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust

We Are Looking For Someone Who

  • Has previous supervisory experience within catering, hospitality, or food service
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is organised, proactive, and able to lead a team effectively
  • Has a strong understanding of food hygiene and customer service standards
  • Is passionate about delivering an excellent patient experience
  • Works well under pressure and can manage competing priorities in a busy healthcare environment

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NVQ Supervisory Certificate and/or experience in a junior role
  • Level 2 Certificate in Food Hygiene

Desirable criteria

  • Food Hygiene Level 3 Award in Food Safety in Catering
  • Health and Safety, COSHH, Moving and Handling
  • NEBSS and/or OND qualification and/or similar qualification

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Ability to work efficiently with good time management skills
  • Strong and effective supervisory skills
  • Numeracy and literacy skills and financial awareness
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to deal with difficult situations
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure

Desirable criteria

  • Innovative approach to service provision to enable a modern NHS catering service
  • Report writing
  • Project work

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Good IT Skills
  • Essential interpersonal skills
  • Experience of managing a 50 plus catering team in a patient-facing environment
