Ward Manager – Saffron Ward (Critical Care for Older Adults)
About Saffron Ward
Saffron Ward is a 23-bedded specialist unit for patients aged 65+ who require a transitional period of assessment—either stepping down from an acute hospital setting or stepping up from the community as they recover from delirium.
Our mission is to optimise the health, wellbeing, and independence of older adults through integrated medical, nursing, and therapeutic interventions tailored to their needs.
About the Role
The Ward Manager will oversee the delivery of high-quality care on Saffron Ward, ensuring a supportive, inclusive, and patient-centred environment. This role requires strong leadership, clinical insight, and a commitment to promoting staff and patient growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, professional leadership to ward staff, ensuring:
- Effective management of staff rotas to optimise resource allocation and service user care.
- Dedicated oversight of sickness monitoring in accordance with Trust policies.
- Maintain direct, sensitive communication with patients, families, and carers, acting as a senior advocate for their dignity and needs.
- Uphold Trust and national policies, ensuring all staff comply with clinical practice guidelines.
- Lead on patient complaint investigations, aiming for resolutions at ward level and escalating to the Service Manager where necessary.
- Support clinical equipment maintenance and ensure staff competency in its safe application.
- Deputise for the Service Manager when required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
