Warehouse Apprentice for a Leading Electrical Wholesaler

A warehouse apprentice is required for a leading electrical wholesaler. The candidate will start in the warehouse and learn all the products of warehouse management. Fantastic career progression opportunity for the right candidate.

About the Role

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What is an Electrical Wholesaler?

Electrical wholesalers sell the products we all use in our homes, businesses, entertainment venues, cafes that give us access to electricity—from lighting our homes through to floodlighting a football match, from recharging a mobile phone to recharging an electric vehicle. The products you will be working with are used in domestic, industrial, and commercial settings, and are installed by contractors and electricians.

Responsibilities

After full training responsibilities will include:

  • Managing stock in and out (to external clients)
  • Picking and packing
  • Store transfers and stock control
  • Completing the paperwork within the warehouse
  • Raising quotations
  • Processing orders
  • Some heavy lifting will be involved with loading and unloading the vans

Training and Development

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Course Contents

  • Conduct risk assessments within the working environment.
  • Apply safe working practices in line with associated health and safety legislation and company policy.
  • Receive products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Store and pick products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Dispatch products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
  • Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
  • Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
  • Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • Support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
  • Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.

Completing a Level 2 Supply Chain Warehouse Apprenticeship standard, consisting of:

  • Knowledge and competence qualification in Supply Chain Warehouse at Level 2
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA) - final test and observation

The vocational and academic training aspects are separated and delivered by separate teams. The vocational training and assessment are conducted, more often than not, on site according to the employer's wishes. Notice of dates is agreed well in advance of a site visit. Training and assessment is conducted both on and off the job, according to the needs of the course and the learner. Every effort is made to ensure the best result is achieved by the learner.

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade 4-9 / *A-C)
    • Maths (grade 4-9 / *A-C)
