The Role

The Warehouse Lead Operative will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing daily workloads
  • Training and developing a small team of operators
  • Controlling the management of materials as they move:
    • Out of the warehouse
    • Into production
    • Back into the warehouse as built assemblies
  • Ensuring all actions meet the highest levels of accuracy
  • Preventing line stoppages by proactively verifying the accuracy of issued and returned materials after production runs

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational compliance

    • Use appropriate materials and handling equipment
    • Follow all safety and quality requirements, especially regarding warehouse and factory safety
  • Materials control

    • Confirm materials from the warehouse prior to production
    • Ensure correct kits are picked by the team for the production line
    • Check parts and quantities match production order requirements

  • Inventory management

    • Monitor and maintain stock levels to avoid over/under-inventory situations
    • Record movements and materials locations on the stock system
  • Systems & documentation

    • Conduct required checks on materials handling equipment
    • Report any maintenance or repair needs
    • Complete all mandatory records, including traceability records
  • Continuous improvement

    • Maintain the highest housekeeping standards (‘3’s/5’s’)
    • Follow waste management procedures
    • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities in safety, quality, output, and cost/efficiency
  • Production support

    • Manage a small team of Decant Operatives to achieve desired quality and output standards to meet production demands
    • Report operational anomalies to the warehouse team leader
    • Identify resource gaps, including absence and holiday coverage needs

  • ** Additional tasks**

    Carry out any other duties supporting warehouse, assembly, and packing operations.


Required Experience & Skills

  • Proficient in using portable scanner terminals for accurate stock record-keeping
  • Ability to interpret production output data to facilitate smooth stock movements aligned with production and despatch requirements
  • Strong leadership skills to:
    • Engage and motivate a team
    • Ensure highest possible output standards
  • Previous experience in a similar materials handling role
  • Previous leadership experience

Required Education & Qualifications

General secondary or vocational qualifications, including:

  • Maths
  • English
  • BTEC Certification, GCSEs, or equivalent
