Waste Centre Manager

About the Role

As Waste Centre Manager, you’ll take full ownership of waste handling, treatment, and disposal operations across the site, ensuring they are delivered safely, compliantly and sustainably. This is a critical operational role, directly supporting production continuity while meeting demanding environmental, health and safety obligations in a COMAH-regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the safe management of all waste streams, including hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with:
    • Environmental permits
    • Duty of care requirements
    • The waste hierarchy
  • Oversee segregation, storage, treatment, and transfer activities
  • Embed robust safe systems of work
  • Align waste operations with:
    • Site permit conditions
    • ISO 14001 standards
    • Company expectations
  • Collaborate closely with:
    • EHS
    • Operations
    • Facilities
    • External contractors
  • Monitor performance, investigate incidents and support COMAH safety case updates
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Play a key role in:
    • Cost control
    • Sustainability
  • Identify opportunities to:
    • Reduce waste volumes
    • Improve recycling rates
    • Minimise environmental impact
    • Maintain operational efficiency

Key Collaboration and Leadership

You’ll join Facilities Management within UK Operations, reporting to the Head of Facilities Management.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop onsite teams and contractors
  • Reinforce strong safety leadership
  • Foster a proactive compliance culture across all waste-related activities

Requirements and Experience

Essential Skills & Knowledge

  • Proven experience in managing waste operations in a regulated industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Hazardous waste
    • Environmental compliance
    • Safety systems
  • Ability to:
    • Interpret legislation
    • Manage inspections and audits
    • Represent the site to regulators and internal stakeholders
  • Strong leadership skills in:
    • Contractor management
    • Performance metrics
    • Compliance documentation

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working within or alongside COMAH environments
  • A proactive approach to safety, continuous improvement and sustainability

Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications strongly desired:
    • NEBOSH
    • WAMITAB
  • Or the ability to obtain them
