Waste Management Supervisor - Leicestershire County Council
Location: Bardon WTS, Interlink Way South, Coalville, LE67 1PG Salary: £28,605 - £31,029 per annum (pro-rata for part-time, before a 1% pay award) Hours: 40 hours per week (though the job posting mentions 37 initially, assume verification)

About the Role
Leicestershire County Council’s Contracts and Haulage Team are recruiting a Waste Management Supervisor to oversee the Waste Transfer Station and Internal/External Haulage Operations. In this position, you will:
- Provide visible leadership to a team of operatives and HGV drivers, assisting the Waste Management Officers and Senior Haulage Officer.
- Manage and operate various equipment, including HGVs, loading shovels, telehandlers, and other site machinery.
- Enhance operational performance, contribute to financial management, and support staff training and development.
- Ensure compliance with statutory duties and provide robust service delivery for the Council.
- Demonstrate a proactive, flexible, time-management, and problem-solving mindset to meet challenges in waste management.
About You
To be considered, you must meet the following qualifications, training, and experience requirements:
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
- Willingness to obtain:
- BTEC, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent (or working towards it).
- HGV Licence.
- Driver CPC.
- Loading Shovel/Plant Ticket (or Train the Trainer qualification).
- WAMITAB CoTC Level 3 (or comparable, e.g., NVQ or SVQ).

Critical Work Experience
- Prior supervision of employees in waste management, transport, haulage, or related industries.
- Management of HGV fleets, including compliance with driver and vehicle legislation.
- Experience with waste carriage, specialist haulage, transfer stations, or similar roles.
- Logistics and vehicle movement planning.
- Daily driver checks and defect assessment, with feedback analysis and integrity in reporting.
- Knowledge of HSE, environmental, and quality management systems (preference for waste-related experience).
Additional Requirements
- Familiarity with driver and vehicle legal/operational practices.
- Ability to prioritise under dynamic, high-pressure conditions.
- Engagement with stakeholders while collaborating effectively with contractors.
- Computer literacy with experience in Microsoft Office and industry-specific software.
- Holds a full, valid driving licence.
