Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) is looking for an experienced Waste Manager to lead the strategic and operational management of waste services across Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites.
This is an exciting opportunity for a waste management professional to play a key role in ensuring compliance, improving sustainability, reducing environmental impact and supporting the delivery of the Trust Green Plan and NHS Net zero ambitions.
As our subject matter expert for waste management and environmental compliance, you will work with colleagues across Facilities, Estates, Procurement Sustainability, Health & Safety and clinical services to ensure safe, effective and compliant waste management arrangements are maintained across the organisation.

What you’ll be doing
- Leading the management and continuous improvement of waste services across multiple healthcare sites
- Providing specialist advice on healthcare and waste legislation, environmental compliance and sustainability
- Managing waste auditing, compliance assurance and performance monitoring activities
- Overseeing contractor performance and supporting procurement and service development projects
- Driving waste reduction, recycling and circular economy initiatives
- Producing performance and compliance reports and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Developing policies, procedures and training programmes to support safe and effective waste management practices
About you
You’ll be a qualified, experienced waste, environmental or compliance professional with:
- Strong knowledge of waste, legislation and environmental compliance requirements
- Experience managing waste services, audits, inspections or assurance activities within a complex organisation
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving abilities
- A passion for sustainability, continuous improvement and delivering high quality services

Experience within healthcare or another highly regulated environment would be advantageous.
