Based at: Edinburgh Airport
Type: Full time / Permanent
Pay: £13.70 per hour / 40 hours per week
Shift Hours: 3:00pm – 12:00am
About the Role
We’re looking for a proactive and reliable Waste Recycling Officer to support waste and recycling operations at Edinburgh Airport. This hands-on role plays a key part in improving recycling efficiency, reducing contamination, and supporting sustainable waste management across the site.
Working closely with the Account Director and airport staff, you’ll help ensure waste is correctly segregated, processed, and managed safely and efficiently.
⚠️ Critical Note:
- An airside pass application will be required, which involves:
- A Disclosure Scotland criminal record check
- A 5-year work history disclosure (paid and processed by Biffa upon offer)

- Collect and transport waste from landside holding areas to the main waste yard
- Sort waste streams to maximise recycling levels and minimise contamination
- Operate waste compactors and baler machinery to produce high-quality bales (full training provided)
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation across waste holding areas and the waste yard
- Complete daily equipment and operational checks
- Load and unload service vehicles safely and efficiently
- Support airport staff with guidance on correct waste segregation and recycling practices
- Carry out additional duties, including:
- Waste audits
- Confiscated waste disposal
- Replacing signage or container labels
Essential Requirements
✅ Full UK driving licence ✅ Ability to work independently in a fast-paced operational environment ✅ Strong awareness of health and safety procedures ✅ Reliable, proactive, and comfortable using initiative ✅ Good communication skills and ability to work with varied stakeholders ✅ Comfortable with manual handling duties ✅ Flexible approach to ad-hoc tasks and operational requirements

⚡ Preferred:
- Previous experience in waste, recycling, logistics, or operational environments
