Wastewater Network Modellers (Assistant to Principal)

About the Role

We’re seeking Wastewater Network Modellers (Assistant to Principal) to join our respected UK water team. This role involves delivering high-quality projects for some of the UK’s largest regulated water companies and providing opportunities to work across various business units.

Key Objectives:

  • Enhance career development by leveraging your technical expertise to drive excellence in service and asset performance.
  • Assist in hydraulic modelling studies supporting core water clients, using software like InfoWorks ICM/CS, TUFLOW, Causeway Flow, and in-house software (i.e., FRM).
  • Interrogate and refine existing models, building new ones to assess asset performance.
  • Work collaboratively to deliver current and future projects for urban drainage and infrastructure efficiency.

You’ll be embraced by 600+ UK professionals, led by a world-class Global Water Team. Your impact spans major projects while connecting with SSEN, Severn Trent Water, Northern Ireland Water, Welsh Water, Southern Water, United Utilities, and more.

Roles & Responsibilities

As a Wastewater Network Modeller, you’ll excel in:

  • Providing technical guidance on urban drainage while supporting wastewater projects—contributing to sustainable delivery methods.
  • Collaboration on feasibility studies and optioneering exercises, leveraging network models to optimise asset performance.
  • Preparing detailed reports, drawings, and bills of quantities.
  • Defining field investigation requirements for site assessments.
  • Building strong client relationships, including facilitating meetings and networking—representing WSP at industry conferences and forums.
  • Contributing to knowledge sharing by sharing approaches and insights with the broader team.

Key Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Degree in civil engineering, environmental science, hydrogeology, geography, or a related discipline.
  • Chartership from a recognised professional institution (e.g., ICE, CIWEM, observed corporate members) or equivalent working towards charter.
  • Fluency in urban drainage modelling and ability to validate outputs before publication.
  • In-depth experience with InfoWorks ICM (or similar software such as TUFLOW, PCSWMM).
  • Proficiency in a GIS system (ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo).
