Wastewater Network Modeller (Assistant to Principal) – Core Water Team

We are seeking Wastewater Network Modellers (Assistant to Principal) to join our established water team, delivering projects for some of the UK’s largest regulated water companies. Our water team collaborates with a wide range of WSP business units, offering exciting opportunities to engage in diverse projects while serving our core client base.
These roles will help you grow by leveraging your technical expertise, ensuring both technical excellence and efficient service delivery.
Key Activities
You will:
- Provide technical support for hydraulic modelling studies (industry standard software: InfoWorks ICM/CS, TUFLOW, Causeway flow, FRM, and others).
- Work alongside project teams to develop, analyse, and enhance existing models to assess asset performance.
- Conduct engineering visits to support field investigations.
- Produce technical reports and supporting drawings.
- Build client relationships, coordinate project discussions, and represent WSP at industry forums.
Who You’ll Work With
You’ll collaborate in a 600+ strong engineering team across the UK, supported by our Global Water Team. Our portfolio includes clients such as Severn Trent Water, Northern Ireland Water, Welsh Water, Southern Water, Wessex Water, United Utilities, Uisce Éireann, and Scottish Water Horizons.

Responsibilities
You will:
Technical Support & Hydraulic Modelling
- Provide input to urban drainage projects, aiding the current and future projects of our core clients.
- Support the development of feasibility studies and option analysis (osteering).
- Utilise network modelling tools to evaluate and optimise asset performance.
- Prepare technical reports and engineering drawings for project documentation.
- Define field investigation requirements for asset inspections.
Collaboration & Delivery
- Build and maintain positive client relationships—from initial contact through to project completion.
- Lead and facilitate project meetings, both internally and externally, to ensure smooth delivery.
- Present WSP Brand at industry events and conferences, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Enable knowledge transfer within the team, fostering learning through mentorship and training.
Requirements
We’re looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
Technical Expertise & Qualifications
- A degree in engineering, environmental science, or geography.
- Chartered membership (or working towards chartership) with a relevant professional institution (e.g., ICE/CIWEM).
- Strong knowledge of urban drainage modelling.
- Proven competency in hydraulic modelling—preferably using InfoWorks ICM or comparable software.
- Experience in handling modelling outputs, checking them prior to delivery.
- Familiarity with industry-standard GIS systems, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or MapInfo.
