Wastewater Network Modellers (Assistant to Principal) – UK Water Network Modelling role at WSP

About the Role
We’re seeking Wastewater Network Modellers (Assistant to Principal) to support our core regulated energy and water clients while shaping future practice through a diverse portfolio of global and UK-based infrastructure projects. This role offers technical leadership opportunities alongside cross-disciplinary projects and a collaborative environment where growth is encouraged through meaningful contributions to key development areas.
Your responsibilities will include hydraulic modelling studies, asset performance evaluations, and collaborative project delivery, ensuring high-quality technical outputs and efficient service delivery. You will work closely with regulated water companies, national water boards, and non-regulated clients, gaining exposure to a wide range of modelling software and asset performance applications.
Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Field Support
- Provide technical input on urban drainage projects, supporting current and future initiatives and influencing efficient engineering delivery approaches.
- Assist in developing feasibility studies and optioneering to scope technical solutions.
- Conduct thorough network model interrogation, asset performance optimisation, and model enhancement (including new-build models).

Reporting & Asset Management
- Prepare technical reports, performance assessments, and draft datasets for project documentation.
- Define field investigation requirements in collaboration with technical stakeholders.

Client Engagement & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain and expand excellent client relationships, coordinating and chairing project meetings.
- Contribute to widened team knowledge via documentation, mentoring, and role-model behaviours in technical analysis.
- Promote the WSP brand at industry events, forums, and conferences.

Collaborative & Strategic Growth
- Support the expansion of the UK water modelling team, gaining exposure to global collaborative workstreams, including projects for Severn Trent Water, NI Water, Welsh Water, United Utilities, and more.
- Enhance your skills through client-facing tasks, cross-business unit collaboration, and alignment with regulatory industry teams.
The Ideal Candidate
Experience, skills, and credentials must demonstrate ability in the following areas:

Relevant Training & Qualifications
- Genuine degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, environmental science, geography, or a related specialism.
- Elton Fellow (or personal candidacy towards) with either:
- ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) membership
- CIWEM (Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management) membership

Technical Mastery
- Proven urban drainage mastery—ability to understand, validate, and optimise technical outputs.
- Hands-on expertise in using the hydraulic modelling software InfoWorks ICM or CS, including:
- Analysing and enhancing existing network models.
- Development of new models.
- Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS): ArcGIS, QGIS or MapInfo.
