Water Field Technician – Winchester (Field-Based Role)
Location: Winchester (covering areas such as Southampton, Portsmouth, Basingstoke) Salary: £36,517 Contract Type: Permanent Closing Date: 16/07/2026

We are seeking a Water Field Technician to support our water asset team, ensuring that our network delivers consistently excellent service in line with our vision: "Earn customer loyalty and drive business growth."
This is a field-based role in the Winchester area, meaning you will work across Southampton, Portsmouth, Basingstoke and surrounding regions.
Purpose of the Role
Your primary responsibility will be to:
- Provide fields support to the water asset team, ensuring installations are high-standard and compliant.
- Ensure our water network remains robust and reliable, providing customers with wholesome drinking water.
Key Responsibilities

Customer & Contractor Liaison:
- Act as the escalation point for developers, customers, and contractors.
- Engage with stakeholders during both planned and unplanned incidents to resolve issues efficiently.

Quality & Compliance:
- Maintain the quality and integrity of the water network through structured audit strategies.
- Conduct audits and assessments of construction activities related to IWNL water mains.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation during on-site diagnostic activities or observations.

Regulatory & Technical Compliance:
- Verify that all assets meet technical and regulatory standards as outlined by IWNL.
- Undertake water sampling post-outage following DWTS UKAS 17025 standards.

Technical & Operational Tasks:
- Attend meetings with site and construction personnel.
- Complete internal and external pressure and flow readings.
- Carry out any additional tasks as required by your line manager.
Requirements
Qualifications
- CSCS or equivalent (SHEA Water may be required or a desirable asset).
- Driving licence (essential for fieldwork).
Experience & Knowledge
- Hands-on experience in the water industry (preferred).
- Customer-facing experience ( Vital).
- Knowledge of health and safety standards and policies in water utilities.
Skills & Attributes
- Proactive attitude with strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Outstanding customer service abilities (essential for stakeholder engagements).
Desirable Qualifications
- National Water Hygiene certification.
- Confined spaces training.
- Network/leakage qualification.
Employer Conditions
- DBS check (due to accessing customers’ homes).
- Standby rota participation (on-call availability may be required).
