The Opportunity

AMP8 (2025–2030) marks the largest investment in UK water infrastructure since privatisation. The water industry will respond to pressures from climate change, population growth, and increasing environmental standards, while strengthening long-term resilience. It presents a unique opportunity to develop new water resources and deliver lasting benefits for our communities and the environment.
At Stantec, our Water Resources team supports clients leading these challenges. We contribute to:
- Strategic Resource Options (SROs)
- Water Resource Management Plans (WRMPs)
- Drought Plans
- Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP)
Working in partnership with water companies, regulators, and stakeholders, we shape the future of water management across the UK.
We are seeking Expressions of Interest from Water Resources professionals who enjoy collaborative, multidisciplinary work. This involves blending technical, environmental, and engineering expertise to help clients make informed, future-focused decisions.
About The Role
We invite Expressions of Interest from Water Resources Planning Consultants at all career stages, spanning:
- Early-career professionals
- Mid-level practitioners
- Established Technical Directors leading work areas on major projects
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Support clients across the UK through independent or collaborative work
- Engage closely with Water Environment and Engineering specialists
- Lead or contribute to sustainable, joined-up solutions in areas like:
- Water resources option appraisal
- Environmental assessment
- Water resources modelling
- Deployable output assessments
- Feasibility studies
- Development of regulatory submissions
- For senior applicants, deliver strategic oversight, bridge disciplines, and:
- Support client engagement
- Drive programme delivery
- Strengthen our Water Resources capability and capacity

About You
We value professionals from water industry backgrounds—whether from consultancies, water companies, regulatory bodies or related organisations. To align with this role, we seek:
- Relevant experience in:
- Water resources planning
- Hydrology
- Water-resources modelling
- Environmental assessment
- Water quality management
- Catchment management
- Drought planning
- Strategic planning (e.g., water company planning functions)
- Knack for technical analysis: work comfortably with data interpretation and evidence-based decision-making
- Enjoy communicating complex challenges to clients
- Experience in:
- Water Resource Management Plans (WRMPs)
- Drought Plans
- Strategic Resource Options (SROs)
- RAPID programmes
- Regional planning studies
- Environmental assessments
- Resilience programmes (helpful but not mandatory)
