The Opportunity
Water is at the centre of everything. It sustains life, shapes ecosystems and underpins communities across the UK and beyond. Securing a resilient and sustainable water supply for future generations has never been more important.
AMP8 (2025–2030) marks the largest investment in UK water infrastructure since privatisation. The water industry will be responding to pressures from climate change, population growth, and increasing environmental standards, while strengthening long-term resilience. It presents a unique opportunity to develop new water resources and deliver lasting benefits for communities and the environment.
At Stantec, our Water Resources team is supporting clients at the forefront of these challenges. We contribute to Strategic Resource Options (SROs), Water Resource Management Plans (WRMPs), Drought Plans and the Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP), working in partnership with water companies, regulators, and stakeholders to shape the future of water management across the UK.
We are seeking Expressions of Interest from Water Resources professionals who enjoy collaborative, multidisciplinary work, bringing together technical, environmental, and engineering expertise to help clients make informed, future-focused decisions.
About The Role
We are inviting Expressions of Interest from Water Resources Planning Consultants at all career stages, from early-career professionals through to established Technical Directors, leading work areas on major projects.

- Play a key role in developing sustainable and joined-up solutions, including:
- Water resources option appraisal

- Deployable output assessments
- Feasibility studies
- Development of regulatory submissions
- Help clients plan and deliver sustainable, resilient, long-term solutions.
For more senior applicants, we are particularly interested in individuals who can:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
