Water Resource Consultants | Expression of Interest

Expressions of Interest: Water Resources Planning Consultant

The Opportunity

Water is at the centre of everything—it sustains life, shapes ecosystems, and underpins communities across the UK and beyond. Securing a resilient and sustainable water supply for future generations has never been more critical.

AMP8 (2025–2030) represents the largest investment in UK water infrastructure since privatisation. The water industry must address pressures from climate change, population growth, and rising environmental standards while enhancing long-term resilience. This presents a pivotal opportunity to develop new water resource solutions and deliver lasting benefits for communities and the environment.

At Stantec, our Water Resources team supports clients at the forefront of these challenges, contributing to:

  • Strategic Resource Options (SROs)
  • Water Resource Management Plans (WRMPs)
  • Drought Plans
  • Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP)

We collaborate with water companies, regulators, and stakeholders to shape the future of water management across the UK.

We’re seeking Expressions of Interest from Water Resources professionals—including early-career professionals through to established Technical Directors—who thrive in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments and apply technical, environmental, and engineering expertise to drive data-driven, future-focused decisions.

About The Role

Stantec invites Expressions of Interest from Water Resources Planning Consultants at all career stages to contribute to large-scale UK water projects.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll support clients across the UK, working independently and within our wider team, while liaising closely with Water Environment and Engineering specialists. Your role may include:

  • Developing and leading water resources plans (e.g., option appraisals, environmental assessments, water resource modelling, deployable output assessments, feasibility studies)
  • Preparing regulatory submissions to support sustainable, resilient long-term solutions
  • Contributing to (or leading) strategic planning initiatives, including:
    • Water Resource Management Plans (WRMPs)
    • Drought and resilience planning
    • Climate adaptation solutions
  • Collaborating on multidisciplinary projects, merging technical, environmental, and engineering perspectives

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
